Who is Big Paws?
The Eldridge Family
Shannon and Dan Eldridge love dogs. Their beloved rescues, Bubba and Gideon, were recognized as part of their wedding party when they were married in 2013. It is of little-to-no-surprise that their love for each other and their plight for dogs in need of loving homes would manifest into the nonprofit rescue organization, Big Paws of the Ozarks. Shannon Eldridge has been a lifelong advocate for neglected dogs and animal rescue organizations. For over 15 years, Shannon has fostered and saved numerous dogs in need of shelter, medical attention, and love. A dream of Shannon's for years, Big Paws of the Ozarks became a reality in 2016. Shannon serves as Big Paws of the Ozarks President and works diligently with animal shelters and rescue organizations, both local and neighboring states.
Saving Big Dogs
We are a 501c3, nonprofit organization based in Fayetteville, AR. Currently we rely mainly on foster homes to facilitate the transition between rescue and rehoming. We have made it our priority to focus on large breed dogs (40lbs+) that have been in the shelter the longest and have a higher rate of euthanasia. Our dogs will come from shelters, owner surrenders, or have been found abandoned.
These dogs sometimes arrive in bad shape, with untreated allergies, wounds, heartworms, and other ailments. This could be due to neglect or the inability of the owner to afford proper treatment. One of our greatest operating expenses is veterinarian care. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and given a clean bill of health. We also provide food and supplies to all of our fosters. We spare no expense when it comes to the extraordinary care of our dogs.
